THE
SANCTUARY
Welcome to The Sanctuary
Sponsor a Sanctuary Senior Dog

Can't adopt or foster a senior dog? You can still help.
All of the dogs featured below are permanent residents of The Sanctuary at BGSTR.
They are not currently available for adoption for a variety of reasons; some have
constant medical needs; some are in the final stages of illness or some have special
emotional needs.

You can sponsor one of our permanent residents by becoming
a VIRTUAL CARETAKER
through our
Sponsor a Sanctuary program.

Your contribution provides food and ongoing medical care for our Sanctuary Seniors.
Without sponsors like you, the Sanctuary could not continue its mission of protecting and
caring for old dogs that cannot be adopted.
Please be sure to tell us which dog you would like to become a virtual caretaker.
Please meet  Kyley our 9 year old little male shih tzu.

Kyley
Birthday:8-5-99
Kyley was first introduced to his foster mom February
1,2007.  He was left at the groomers by his owner. Little Feet
Rest and Rescue took him into their rescue.  They had a
fatty tumor removed from his neck and chest area. When
the founder became to ill to continue with the rescue Kyley
was placed with Bluegrass. This tumor came back bigger
than before and was removed again in July of 2009.  The
tumor is back and another small one under his armpit.
In March 2010,Kyley had another surgery to remove a tumor
the size of your fist which was cancer. The tumor was
attached to his spleen and his spleen was removed alone
with the tumor. Which was cancer.
The vet says textbook gives a few months but she has seen
dogs live for a couple of years.
Kyley eats Core dog food by Wellness which cost $49.99 +
tax.  He has a weak stomach and is the only food I have
found that agrees with him.He is groomed every 5weeks
which cost $25 my groomer gives me a discount for him
since he is a rescue dog.
Kyley is on Pet Tabs for puppies  and Zyrtec which cost
$32.00 for 70 pills.
Kyley needs a dental and his rabies shot is due.
With everything Kyley has been threw he remains to be a
happy boy.

UPDATE 5/7/10:  After 4 months in her foster home, Charlene is
slowly (very slowly) allowing herself to be more social with her
foster mom and the other dogs in the household.  Now she will
cower but not run if her foster mom walks by.  She is still
terrified of most everything and is especially frightened of
thunderstorms and even a simple rain shower.  We are seeing
just how emotionally damaged this little girl is, but her foster
mom has all the patience in the world and Charlene is going at
her own pace.  Because she is so emotionally fragile the rescue
has decided not to place her for adoption.  Charlene will remain
with her foster mom for the rest of her life.  Sometimes when we
rescue a dog it is forever and this is the case with our Charlene.
Periodic updates will be posted on her progress.  If you would
like to participate in Charlene's care please visit our Sponsor
page.

Miss Amelia is now one of our sanctuary dogs.  We have
decided to keep her with us due to her physical needs and
the fact that she will snap when upset.  Thankfully, she is with
one of our experienced permanent foster moms and has
settled in nicely with her new family.  Amelia is a very active
and happy little girl who races around in spite of her
deformed back legs.  Amelia stays in diapers because she
relieves herself by propping up her back legs but then wets
all over them.  She has adjusted to diapers very well and will
lay still like a baby when she gets changed!  Amelia is is in
the same sanctuary family as Charlene and we knew for sure
that this is where Amelia needs to stay when Charlene began
playing with her - Charlene has never played with any other
dog!  Amelia is helping Charlene come out of her shell and is
her close buddy!  If you would like to help Amelia please
consider a donation toward the cost of the diapers which are
quite expensive.  Meanwhile, she is loving her forever
sanctuary family and is bringing them all great joy - especially
Charlene!

Please help Miss Amelia continue to live in a foster home
that provides the love & care she needs.

All donations are tax deductible.
