Little Bingo is feeling much better. He has been bearing some weight on his right rear but not
moving much. X-ray revealed 2 fractures: one above his right hip and another on a vertebra on
the opposite side of his spine. The vet says this is consistent with an animal being kicked. She
has seen it many times before.
Bingo will be confined to very strict cage rest for 6 weeks to see if these fractures will heal on
their own. He will be leash walked only and not allowed out of his cage except to eat and relieve
himself. If Bingo still limps after 6 weeks, he will probably need an FHO on his right hip. The vet
says it is possible, but not certain. The next 6 weeks will tell the story. He can also be neutered
after 6 weeks, and these procedures can be performed at the same time if he needs an FHO.
Meanwhile, Bingo will be on daily Metacam anti-inflammatory and Dasuquin glucosamine
supplements. He is HW- and had pre-surg bloodwork done today. He can have a bath (had lots of
flea dirt) but cannot be groomed because he should not stand that long. He'll get a bath tomorrow
- he stinks. He will be wormed as a precaution, even though his fecal looked clear.
Bingo is a sweet, quiet little guy - approx 10 months old (13#) with beautiful teeth. He seems to
understand that the new people in his life will treat him gently. He had some breakfast and I put
him in his kennel in the main bath. We'll go for a short walk a few times every day. Will keep you
updated, and if you have any questions just let me know. Thank you, Holly, for releasing Bingo to
rescue. He'll get everything he needs, including a great family.
Update: Feb 17, 2010
Bingo isn't limping any more and feels much better. He has had 3 weeks
of cage rest, with 3 more weeks to go before new x-rays to check on his
fractures. Meanwhile, Bingo's "puppy" has surfaced. He likes to chew,
stretch out on the floor and be rubbed everywhere. He has become
bored with the small area where he walks on a leash - he wants to go
explore. He wants to chase the squirrels and birds. Bingo sleeps with
his stuffed toy and gnaws on its ears and tail. He adores attention and
affection. His sweet personality is very endearing.
