Bluegrass Shih Tzu Rescue,Inc. is a non profit organization with 501(c)3 Tax-exemption status. We are an all volunteer group. None of our members receive any type of payment for the services they so graciously offer. Our rescue is just one part of a growing network of rescue organizations dedicated to rescuing Shih Tzu all over the United States.
I have been asked many time "Why do you need to rescue a Shih Tzu?"Many Shih Tzu are found as unclaimed strays or abandoned, abused or neglected. They also come from owners who can't give them the care they need.
There are 3 basic steps in rescue: RESCUE-FOSTER-PLACEMENT
RESCUE: This is where our volunteers find out about a Shih Tzu in need through contacts with a local shelters, referrals from others, Internet resources, or simply from caring and concerned people. The volunteer will step forward and rescue the Shih Tzu and bring it to foster care.
FOSTER: During this stage volunteers open their hearts and homes to care for the Shih Tzu until it can be placed in a safe and loving "forever" home. While in foster care the Tzu is observed and assessed, taken to the vet for necessary medical needs and given lots of love and attention.
PLACEMENT: The priority of this stage is placing the Shih Tzu in a safe and loving "forever" home. Potential "forever" owners and homes are subject to a rigorous screening process.
All the Shih Tzu we place are spayed or neutered, current on vaccines andon heartworm preventative. The adoption fees are based on the age of the Shih Tzu. These fees are used to offset our vet bills.
